Created during the colonial period when India was under the rule of the British, Abanindranath Tagore created this masterpiece to surge pride in all of the hearts that beat for the country, to awaken the patriotism deep down in the souls of all Indians.
Abanindranath Tagore was also the founder of the Bengal School of Art. He portrayed Bharat Mata as a calm, peaceful lady dressed in saffron, with a book, white cloth, garland, and paddy plant in her four hands.
Nandlal Bose belonged to Shantiniketan and created the art piece by the name Bapuji during the colonial period too. He portrayed the figure of Mahatma Gandhi. He is painted depicting him in the moment of his famous Dandi March, done to break the salt law and lay the first mark of independence. The painting has an inscription under it that holds the words " Bapuji, 1930, Dandi March ".
The bard of Bengal and the Pride of India, Rabindranath Tagore brought a revolution and rose a storm only by the intense power of his words and his art. He also had a keen interest in art and started painting in 1924. He created his self-portraits with fine, fast, and certain strokes of pencils, making them a masterpiece.
