STEP 1: UNDERSTAND MATERIAL AND OBJECT YOU WANT TO DRAW
•First of all purpose of using grey toned sheet for realistic color pencil work is to highlight the curves on objects wrapper or depth of field on plastic surface when light was applied on the surface of object .
•Understanding object means to draw realistic object with color pencil obviously we need shadow to show the depth of object means in three dimensional manner height is also considered in drawing but we cant draw them so shadow here works as illusion of height to viewer.
•While creating reference for work just keep in mind don’t take picture where there is no angle or any kind of height. Yes shadow as a height but little bit curve of high should be visible while creating (clicking) reference.
•Always put light above the object so you can get white reflection highlight and perfect shadow depth which looks like height

•As I suggest use grid method to draw object when you want to draw realistic object.
•It's okay to use grid method that doesn't show you are not good at free hand drawing …
