Amit Kumar Meena : Charcoal Speaks

Updated: Aug 19, 2020

About the Artist

Amit Kumar Meena is a Mumbai based 23-year-old hyperrealism artist, who mainly works in Charcoal and Graphite. His sketches, especially the sculpture series make him stand out from the other hyperrealistic artists.

He says, “I intend to show people a unique perspective towards things they might have mistaken as mundane. We come across a lot of things in our daily lives, but we don’t take time to reflect on them. This generation doesn’t know how to express emotions and my drawings are a way to tap into those repressed emotions. I hope people who see my art, find their way through my art and life.” All his work is charcoal-based and even though charcoal is not an easy material to work with, he enjoys the challenge involved in being able to do so.

About his Art-Style

Amit Meena’s work predominantly involves a genre known as hyper-realism. He is a self-taught artist who has mastered the art of using charcoal on paper over the years. He hopes to move towards conceptual and contemporary art in the future. With simple tools but a technique practiced and mastered over time, he continues to capture the essence of life on blank sheets.

He has been featured in Sunday Mid-day Newspaper twice. He runs his own podcast - "Why so Artsy" where he is in conversation with different artists who share tips and tricks about Art and discuss their casual life.

Mantra for Successful Art Career

Keep creating, keep challenging yourself! Sometimes it’s hard and sometimes it's even harder to create because of all the worries around us, but that’s what makes it fun. I love to observe everything and every step I take is to learn something new. Creation cannot be stopped because of any worry. In fact, it is in those challenging times, that we should create more, express more, and live more.

As the Rad Educator - Charcoal Sketching, Amit will be sharing a step-by-step tutorial for charcoal hyperrealism sketching, twice every month.

Note : I take individual online classes instead of taking workshops. It helps me to focus on one student and I intend to produce the best results. There is no workshop happening soon.
